 (Lives with wife, Debra Kay Leickly, and three daughters.  Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.)

 

EDUCATION:           1986: received degree of Juris Doctor from Ohio State University College of Law.  Graduated with honors in Law.

 

1979: Received Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ohio State University.

 

EXPERIENCE:    James R. Leickly, Attorney at Law:

June 15, 1998 – Present. I work as a sole practitioner in a wide variety of matters, including general corporate practice and commercial, business, real estate and employment litigation.  Common cases include: partnership and shareholder disputes; covenants not to compete and trade secret matters; mortgage foreclosure actions; real estate disputes, fraud claims, personal injury and landlord/tenant matters.  Serve as general counsel and secretary for Unisone Corporation, a New Castle, Delaware corporation.  Outside of the area of litigation, I handle contract formations, real estate transactions, business formations, sales of businesses and simple wills and powers of attorney.

 

                   Shuler, Plank, Morgan & Brahm, L.P.A.:

July 1, 1995 – June 15, 1998.  I performed litigation work in commercial areas, including, primarily, real estate and employment.  Employment law experience included wrongful discharge as well as cases involving covenants not to compete and trade secrets.  My real estate practice included landlord/tenant work and eminent domain work.  Also handled a number of business disputes between partners as well as co-shareholder/directors in closely held corporations. Was a shareholder/director and assisted in the management of the firm during my entire tenure.

 

                                 Luper, Sheriff & Neidenthal, L.P.A.:

1986 – June 30, 1995. I performed litigation work in an extensive number of areas including commercial, employment, real estate, age discrimination, workers’ compensation, personal injury and medical malpractice.  Argued before the Ohio Supreme Court and argued cases before juries in federal court (Southern District of Ohio) as well as the common pleas courts of Franklin and Montgomery counties.  Have also litigated before various administrative entities such as the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Ohio Superintendent of Banks, Ohio Department of Transportation, Franklin County Real Estate Ethics Board and Columbus Tow Truck Advisory Board.  Was a shareholder/director from July 1, 1993 until June 30, 1995 and participated in the management of the firm.

                                   

                                  Connor & Koltak, L.P.A.:

September, 1984 – May, 1985.  I was a law clerk for two-attorney firm serving clients in the areas of general civil litigation, workers’ compensation and criminal law.  Researched and drafted motions and memoranda of law and conducted client and witness interviews.

 

                                  Ohio State University: Office of Communication Services:

June – September, 1984.  I was a science and feature writer for OSU.  My duties included writing articles about OSU faculty conducting research.  These articles appeared in the OSU publications of Quest, On Campus and the University’s News Features Service.

 

                                  The Chillicothe Gazette:

August, 1981 – September, 1983.  I was a reporter covering city council, local politics, schools, businesses, and a number of city and regional issues.  I also wrote features and columns.

 

                                  The Painesville Telegraph:

January – August ,1981.  I was a reporter covering high school boys and girls sports.  I also wrote a variety of community sports and recreation features.

 

                                  Tri-Village Publishing Company:

February – June,1980.  I was a general assignment reporter and photographer.

 

                      The Columbus Dispatch:

February – March, 1980.  I was a reporter covering high school basketball.

 

                                    The Ohio State Lantern:

Autumn, 1979.  I was the News Editor of the student newspaper at OSU.  I was in charge of laying out inside pages, managing copy desk, and all phases of afternoon production.

 

ACTIVITIES:            I have performed in various dramatic productions of the Lawyers Performance Ensemble, including “Man of LaMancha,” “Inherit the Wind,” “Twelve Angry Jurors” and “A Few Good Men.”  Was a monthly contributing writer for Bar Briefs, a Columbus Bar Association publication.  Have been a lay delegate, Sunday school teacher (adult and child), Bible study leader and committee chairman at Stonybrook United Methodist Church in Gahanna, Ohio.
